Captain Rich Waterman and the EMB 145 regional jet

Anyone who plays piano can tell you there is nothing they would rather do.  It's no different with me. My piano music is an expression of who I am.  When my beautiful daughter Stephanie was getting married a few years ago, I recorded a special arrangement of "Unforgettable" as a gift in her honor and it was playing for the first time as we walked down the aisle. I was so proud to be a dad to such an unforgettable bride...and my music was an expression of my pride and appreciation for her.

I try to use music to communicate beauty. Piano music has a very deep meaning and a huge impact on my life.....and I know every artist in the Gallery feels the same. This is what makes piano music so special.

Biography

Richard Waterman

Real Piano Music.com

Richard V. Waterman was born in Waterloo, Iowa in 1964 and grew up in Wisconsin and Illinois. After his family moved to Cabery, Illinois in the mid-70s, his music experience began at the age of ten when he started playing piano in a small store front church where his father was pastor.  Over the next several years, he taught himself to play piano by ear and developed the ability to play and improvise all sorts of music.

Before Rich developed the love of piano, he had fallen in love with aviation. When he was around 8 years old while still in southern Wisconsin, his father was a pilot and flew an airplane called the Cessna Skymaster with two engines, one in front, one in back (pictured below). His father would take him along on business trips in the Skymaster and would often let young Rich handle the controls.  Rich fell in love with flying and knew he would become a pilot someday.

Upon graduating from high school in 1983, Rich joined the Army and was stationed in  Fort Polk, Louisiana for two years.  After leaving the Army , Rich became a Dallas, Texas Police Officer for two years. In 1992, Rich left Dallas and returned to his home state of Illinois.

In 1994, Rich and his family moved to Carbondale, Illinois where he enrolled at Southern Illinois University.   Three years later he graduated Magna cum Laude with a B.S. in Aviation. Rich went on to become an airline captain for two regional airlines,  flying both the EMB 145 and the CRJ 700  regional jets.

Starting in 2008 during a six year hiatus from aviation, Rich worked on recording his own piano music, releasing three albums.  He also founded Real Piano Music.com, a website where many artists would come together and share their unique musical talents with piano fans.

In 2014, Rich returned to aviation as a contract pilot flying the Cessna Skymaster and in 2016 he returned to the airlines and is once again flying the EMB 145 regional jet. In addition to his career in aviation,  Rich continues to work  with a wide range of piano artists to develop the Artist Gallery at Real Piano Music.com.
